Silencing Home Studio - soundproof and canceling decibeles.html
Silencing the room for home recording/home playing music/heavy metal band at home
I used Polish Money symbol PLN. 4PLN = ~ 1. It Was done for comparison.
I was played in polish metal band named Drakon. We rebuild one room from house in Czeladz. On floor we had got the wooden floor with some cellars (underground) - something like little basement.
We laughed, "there is some moaning slaves from underground". On walls was old paint, awful 40-years old plaster. On ceiling there was a straw. First metal riffs caused ringing of glass in the window. Everywere was rumble.
Drums sounded cheap.
I would like to present list of most popular cheap sound-absorbing materials in home accoustics. That materials you can buy in Castorama, EBAY, ALLEGRO, Ikea, DIY and more.
This is a sheet with X/Y/Z = dimension of material Cena=Price, cena metr szesc = price per cubic meter, and last record is price per square meter of area.
NAME OF MATERIAL: Price per cubic meter / Price per square meter
POROSO ACOUSTIC MAT: (1cm): 500PLN / 5PLN
ACOUSTIC FOAM: (2cm): 60 0PLN / 12 PLN
ACOUSTIC FOAM: (2,5cm): 560 PLN / 14 PLN
ACOUSTIC FOAM: (3cm): 533 PLN / 16 PLN
ACOUSTIC FOAM: (3,5cm): 514 PLN / 18 PLN
PANELS, ACOUSTIC MAT PYRAMIDES (7cm): 685,71 PLN / 48,00 PLN
SPECIAL SHAPE DIFFUSOR (bas trap 3cm): 1481 PLN / 88,89 PLN
WAVE-SHAPE POLIURETHANE FOAM (3cm): 511 PLN / 15 PLN
FLAT-SHAPE POLIURETHANE FOAM (2,5cm) 458 PLN / 18 PLN
PANELS, ACOUSTIC MAT PYRAMIDES (4cm) 720 PLN / 29 PLN
ACOUSTIC MAT FLAT SHAPE (3cm) 567 PLN / 17 PLN
We are searching the cheapest one
The cheapest one in the world of acoustic or pseudoacoustic materials is foam from chairs. One of polish chair producer company spell on polish largest auction portal allegro.pl tones of this material. It's a waste from production of wardrobes, seats, chairs, couches.
Dimensions is thickness 1,2 or 3 centimeters. Price is per one centimeter growth material with 1m : 1m size. 2PLN/sq. meter 2PLN = ~ 1/2
Good work of this because foam is poliurethane
Mineral wool
Average prices is near to 3,5... 8PLN per square meter. But it is more thick material. And more weight per area of wall.
But for emergency casualties that materials must be hidden behind cloth, material, metal case with perforations and as better as you can mounted on wall. Mineral materials can give dust, fragmens, attach to the skin, eyes. Another good reason to use is thermoisolation of wall. If you practice at cold spaces for example garage: you can minimalize heat loss, and another you can absorb some odors from car, oils etc.
Foams supposebly accoustic
Plenty of cosmic shaped, piramides, bals, waves rectangles foams. It's not cheap but this elements is not better solution at accoustic point of view. It only can diffuse a bit of noise. But it would work only at middle and high frequency.
Magic carpets
Nobody expects but normal carpet from floor can absorb many unnecessary sounds of drums. Price is 4PLN+.
Felt and bitumen
It's cheap but thickness is very low, but it have a relatively high density. This material I wasnot used in ranking.
Practical TIPS:
We must to cover a part of wall, ceiling and floor. Better if we will not use paper egg spampings and other contraptions. If we silence too much: the sounds willbe without any echo, any release, sound level will decrease. The drum will be louder than other instruments. In this moment 90%of musicians will give more power per add some VOLUME. It generates noise.. We can mount 50% of soud absorbers, and 50% of standard wall.
Mineral wool at walls
On wall we put two belts of mineral wool. Itis standard packing for this material. In one roll wehave circa 7,5 meters of wool. One is for downside second is for upside of wall. One roll have heigth=120cm.
It's stronly recomend emergency at cutting wool. Fabrics can hurt a skin. We fastened wool to wall by plastic fixing for drywalls. We used standard nails.
You must have hand, eye and head protection.
